2006 MS Girls Basketball (5 & 6)

February 26 IISL Tournament: Bethesda Christian
Our girls played against #3 seed Bethesda Christian in Brownsburg to open the I.I.S.L. playoffs. In the first quarter our girls did well defensively and offensively, but we were not aggressive enough! We were down 4 to 8. The ladies finally turned up their aggressive with defensive full-court press. We scored 13 to 8 in a run leading 17 to 16 at halftime. In the third quarter, Jasmine Jeter had to sit out because of four fouls early. We were down 19 to 26 at the end of third quarter. We struggled with our offense finishing down in the second half after Jasmine fouled out early in the fourth quarter. The final score was 21 to 37. Jasmine Jeter had 15 points. Irene Deluna scored 4 points. Joella Hazelett got 2 points.

February 20: St. Richards
This was the last game of the regular season. We played against St. Richards and played very well during the first half. At halftime, we led by one point, 11 to 10. Our offense struggled in the third quarter. St. Richards had an 8 to 1 run leading 12 to 17 at end of quarter. In fourth quarter our girls turned up their aggressive defense making many steals but had many turnovers. Our offense tried many good inside shots and free throws, but we missed a lot of good opportunities. The final score was 20 to 23. Jasmine Jeter scored 11 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 block shots. Joella Hazelett got 7 points and two steals.

February 15: Traders Point
John Hazelett was not here at the game so Suzi Scaletta took over to coach the team. The players played so well with their hearts out and led the whole 4 quarters. We ended with a win: 41 to 13.

Jasmine Jeter: 24 points, 13 rebounds, 10 steals, 2 blocks
Brita Schwall: 6 points, 3 steals, 3 assists
Lilly Tingler: 2 points, 7 steals
Guiletta Maurcere: 6 points, 2 rebounds
Irene DeLuna: 3 points, 6 rebounds

February 8: St. Richards
We played against St. Richards. Our girls were pretty good to pass around on their offense and only 14 turnovers. I told them that keep to drive and shot more but we missed a lot of good opportunities. We lost 4 to 22 without Jasmine Jeter who was not in uniform on because her ankle. Irene Deluna did a good job with 4 points.

February 7: International
Yesterday we played at International. We did well with our defense and offense plays in first quarter that was tied scored 4 to 4. Jasmine Jeter twisted her ankle during the second quarter. We struggled our offense finishing down. It was tied scored again 8 to 8 at halftime. We did not play well in second half without Jasmine Jeter. We lost 14 to 22. Jasmine had six points and eight rebounds. Joella Hazelett scored six points. Irene Deluna got two points.

February 1: Sycamore
We played against Sycamore at our home court. In first quarter. We started off very well. It was tied score 6 to 6. Jasmine Jeter had to sit out because of her three foul trouble in second quarter. We were down 6 points at halftime. In second half, I could see our all girls to play better on their offense passing around. It was 10 to 14 at the end of third quarter. In 4th quarter, our girls were outstanding, making many good passes and scoring a 14 to 7 run. Our girls finally came back and finished with a win. The final score was 24 to 21. Our motto is teamwork and real team!! Jasmine Jeter helped us with her six free throw points in late of fourth quarter and finished with her 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 block shots. Joella Hazelett had 7 points. Britta Schwall got 2 points.

January 31: Park Tudor
Yesterday we played at Park Tudor. We managed to keep the score 2 to 5 in the 1st quarter. We struggled our offense against their defense zone because they had 3-4 tall players which was to our disadvantage. The halftime was 3 to 20. In second half, we were playing better. It was 2 to 4. Our offense tried many good inside shots, but we missed a lot of good opportunities. The final score was 5 to 24. Jasmine Jeter and Joella Hazelett had two points each.

January 25: Bethesda Christian
We played Bethesda Christian on our home court.  We finally stopped our three game losing streak. We won in overtime 28 to 25. In first quarter, our girls shut them out 9 to 0. Our girls really were aggressive on their defense and make 12 steals in the first half. The halftime score was 18 to 4. Our girls turned down their aggressive defense after getting many fouls in the second half. Bethesda Christian pressed us and got many turnovers from us. They had a run of 19 to 5 and tied the score  23 to 23 at end of fourth quarter. So we went into overtime.  Coach Hazelett told the team to tighten the defense zone. We were up three points with 5 seconds left after Jasmine Jeter made two points. We were excited that our game was over and we won!!!  Wow, it was a long game.  Jasmine Jeter did a good job with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals.  Joella scored 7 points in the first half and had five steals. Britta helped us with her two free throw points in the fourth quarter and overtime including her four steals.

January 18: Greenwood Christian Academy
The 5th & 6th grade girls played their first away game against Orchard. In first quarter, they struggled with their offensive passing and dribbling. Our team was down 2 to 10. The girls played well and more aggressive in the second quarter scoring a 5 to 2 run. The halftime score was 7 to 12. In second half the team was frustrated with Orchard's rough defense. Their defense focused on steals that caused our many turnovers. The final score was 17 to 30. It was better than last week which was 4 to 26. The coaches were very proud of the girls because they fought hard and didn't give up. Jasmine Jeter scored 9 points and 11 rebounds. Joella Hazelett got 8 points and 2 steals.

January 16: St. John Lutheran
Yesterday we hosted St. John Lutheran in the KRC. We played very well during the first half. It was tied score 4 to 4. At halftime, we were down 6 to 8. We tried our best and fought hard in the 2nd half. Our offense tried many good inside shots and free throws, but we missed a lot of good opportunities. Jasmine Jeter and Joella Hazelett scored four points each. Irene Deluna and Giuletta Maucere had two points each. Next Thursday, we will play at Orchard. We need to play more aggressively and be prepare mentally!

January 9: Orchard
Yesterday we played against Orchard. The final score was 4 to 26. Our girls had a hard time mentally and physically getting back into the game of basketball after the long holiday vacation. It was good for our girls to get experience with Orchard who is a really good team. Jasmine Jeter and Joella Hazelett had two points each.

December 14: Trinity Lutheran
Yesterday we hosted Trinity Lutheran in the KRC. In first half, we had many turnovers. Our offense tried many good inside shots, but we missed a lot of good opportunities. However, we led 10 to 2 at halftime. In fourth quarter, we caught up the score 23 to 12 in one minute left. Coach Hazelett decided to let all of the subs play. The final score was 23 to 18. Jasmine Jeter scored 12 points and 16 rebounds. Sarah Margolis-Greenbaum had 7 points. Joella Hazelett got 4 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

December 12: Calvary Lutheran
Yesterday we played against Calvary Lutheran. Their players played very well and started to press us in all quarters. We led 12 to 8 at halftime. We struggled in the 3rd quarter finishing down. It was 16 to 17 at the end of the 3rd quarter. I told our girls to play more aggressive. In 4th quarter, our girls were outstanding , making many good drives and scoring a 13 to 2 run. We won the game 29 to 19. The coaches were very proud of the girls, because they fought hard and didn't give up!! Jasmine Jeters scored 19 points and had 18 rebounds. Britta Schwall had 4 points and 6 steals. Guiletta Maucere, Sarah Margolis, and Joella Hazelett each added 2.

December 7: International
The 5/6th grade girls played their first game against International at their home court. In first quarter, our defense did not play well. We were down at 2 to 6 in the end of first quarter. We fought hard to 10 to 2 run. We led at halftime 12 to 8. The fourth quarter, we had many steals after our defense full press. We caught up the score 20 to 8. In late of fourth quarter, we had too many turnovers from press break. We did not have patience at the closing minutes. The final score was 20 to 16. It was good to win our first game. Jasmine Jeters scored 12 and 18 rebounds. Joella Hazelett had 6 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals.
