May 21: Bethesda Christian (IISL Championship Game)

ISD Middle School Lady Deaf Hoosiers completed their season on Tuesday, May 20 winning a close battle over Bethesda Christian School of Brownsburg and claiming the first-ever Indianapolis Independent School League softball championship.  It was a see-saw battle with Bethesda Christian taking an early one run lead going into the second inning.  ISD came back in the bottom of the second scoring two.  Bethesda Christian went ahead in the third again scoring 2 more.  But once again, the Lady Deaf Hoosiers never caved-in.  Hot bats scored 4 runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth that put them on top to stay.  ISD’s staunch defense and consistent pitching stopped Bethesda Christian with “three and out” each of the final three innings leading the way for ISD’s title.

Each player on the roster contributed in this victory.

May 13: Orchard (IISL Tourney)

In the first round of the IISL play-offs, the Lady Deaf Hoosiers defeated The Orchard School by a score of 4-2.  It was the team’s first road game of the year.  The first two innings, ISD got off to a slow start, both defensively and offensively, with Orchard scoring 2 runs early.  Finally in the fourth inning, ISD’s bats came alive.  With smart base-running, aggressive defense and consistent pitching, the Deaf Hoosiers came back to tie the score at 2-2.  ISD’s defense remained strong down the stretch and the team went on to win the game, in seven innings.  It was a complete team effort.  The teamwork and “never say die” attitude of the ISD team proved a determining factor in the game.  The Lady Deaf Hoosiers go on to play Bethesda Christian on Monday, May 19 for the championship trophy.

May 6: Park Tudor

The Lady Deaf Hoosier softball team won their third game of the season Tuesday defeating Park Tudor 9 - 6.  ISD’s offense combined for 7 hits and earned 12 walks to get on base.  Defensively, the Deaf Hoosiers gave up 8 hits, but had 12 strike outs in the win.

April 29: Bethesda Christian

The Lady Deaf Hoosiers softball team won their second game of the season Tuesday defeating Bethesda Christian 14 – 3.  ISD’s offense continued to improve as the team hit the ball hard.  Defensive was pretty strong, too, with several plays at the plate stifled a Bethesda Christian comeback attempt in the later innings.

April 23: Sycamore

The Lady Deaf Hoosier softball team marked their first win of the season on Wednesday beating a young Sycamore team 20 - 5.  Sycamore jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.  ISD bounced right back in the bottom of the first, regaining the lead, scoring five runs, and adding two more in the second inning.  To their credit, the Sycamore team didn’t quit, as they scored two more runs in the third.  The hammer came down in the fourth as ISD’s bats came alive and scored thirteen runs to close the deal.

April 22: Orchard

In our second game of the season, the Lady Deaf Hoosiers fell to Orchard Tuesday.  The ISD bats came alive in the third inning and we were up 2-0.  We scored one more in the fourth.  Orchard had a productive fifth inning, scoring five runs.  In the seventh, being down 9-3, our team never gave up.  Their fighting attitude, heart and good hitting got them two more runs, but it was “too little, too late.”

April 17: Danville
In their first game of the year, the Middle School Lady Deaf Hoosiers faced Danville Middle School on Thursday.  After weeks of good practices and improved skills, the team played a good game but came up short, losing 9 – 2, the game going the full seven innings.

Offensively, Irene DeLuna had two hits, Courtney Morrison had a single, Kate Fetzer had a double and two stolen bases, Jenna Smith had two hits and two stolen bases, and Giuletta Maucere had a stolen base.  Defensively, Fetzer pitched the game, facing 35 batters and striking out 14 and walking five.  First basewoman, Jasmine Jeter had a defensive gem in the fifth inning, snagging a hard hit grounder and making an unassisted put-out.

Note:  Some Lady Deaf Hoosier players had little or no playing experience in softball before this year.  They did a wonderful job in their first game!
