April 6:

Liberty Christian 6    Indiana Deaf 4                                                                             Record:  0-1

The Lady Deaf Hoosier Softball team opened its 2010 season in Anderson at the Liberty Christian Lions’ home field.  It was the first game of the year for Indiana Deaf, after being rained out in its scheduled home opener on March 26.  Offensively, key hits combined with smart base-running helped ISD early in the game.  At the end of five, the game was tied 4 - 4.  However, going into the sixth inning, costly defensive errors by the Lady Deaf Hoosiers put runners on board for Liberty Christian that helped them score the go-ahead run, giving our opponents the lead, and eventually the win.   The Lady Deaf Hoosiers look forward to the rematch with the Lions later on in the season.

In the team’s fourth game of the year, the Lady Deaf Hoosiers hosted Bethesda Christian on a day just made for softball.  The Patriots jumped up early in the first inning, scoring 4 runs on two hits.  Indiana Deaf scored 1 run in the bottom of the first inning.   Offensively, Indiana Deaf had several hard-hit balls throughout the game, but all were in the direction of waiting BC outfielders.  ISD managed to get four hits and stranded six runners on base.   Bethesda Christian had a more balanced hitting attack yesterday that helped in their cause.  The game ended at the end of 6,  due to the 10 run-rule.

Kate Fetzer pitched the entire game, facing 36 batters, striking out 11 and giving up 3 walks.
