Indiana School for the Deaf, Defending National Academic Bowl Champions (2008), Win the 13th Annual Gallaudet Midwest Regional Academic Bowl

 

The High School Academic Bowl Team from the Indiana School for the Deaf has qualified for the Gallaudet University National Academic Bowl competition by winning the Midwest Regional competition hosted this past weekend at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, Delevan, Wisconsin.  ISD was among sixteen Schools for the Deaf competing for qualifying positions for the national competition which will be held at Gallaudet University, April 26 and 27, 2009.

 

Members of the ISD team are seniors Janna DiBiase, Gabriel Paulone, and Ann Whited, all of Fishers and junior, Anthony Dall from Indianapolis.  In addition, Gabriel Paulone was named as Most Valuable Player for the tournament.  ISD is a repeat regional champ as well as the 2008 and 2004 National Champion.  The team’s academic coaches are Mary Kovatch and Chuck Daube.

 

Gallaudet University, Washington D.C., annually sponsors five regional Academic Bowl competitions of sixteen teams each.  The top three teams plus the one top fourth (top point-earning team from all five regions) place team will vie for national honors in April.

 

Other schools at the Wisconsin regional included: Illinois School for the Deaf, Ohio School for the Deaf, Minnesota School for the Deaf, Minnesota North Star Academy (Minneapolis), Hinsdale South H.S. (Barien, Ill.), Upper Arlington H.S. (Columbus, Ohio), Texas School for the Deaf, Wisconsin School for the Deaf, Kansas School for the Deaf, Oklahoma School for the Deaf, Michigan School for the Deaf, Missouri School for the Deaf, Francis Howell H.S. (St. Charles, Mo.), Highland Park H.S. (St. Paul, Minn.), and St. Rita School for the Deaf (Cincinnati, Ohio).
