Superintendent
Welcome to the Indiana School for the Deaf's Website! It
is with great pleasure that the ISD Community can provide such a wonderful mechanism
to share the school's programs and services. We hope you enjoy all the information
about the ISD and will visit the site often.
The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD)
is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard of hearing students nursery school
to high school. It provides services to approximately 390 enrolled students on
campus and over 200 students through outreach services. About 60 percent of the
students live at school during the academic year. Accordingly, the school offers
a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.
The Indiana School for the Deaf sponsors outreach services throughout the State
of Indiana for parents, families and local school corporations. These services
include consultation, education and training, assessment, audiology, audiological
services, American Sign Language programs, and a Parent Infant Program.
ISD has a strong educational
partnership with Ball State University that provides a full year on campus
experience for sophomores in the field of Deaf Education. The sophomores live
on campus, work as paraprofessionals during the school day, take classes through
Ball State in the evening, and work as assistants in the residential program.
The program has been in existence for over 30 years and has been beneficial to
both Ball State University and ISD.
Vincennes University has a satellite American
Sign Language Program on ISD's campus that provides an Associates Degree upon
completion of the course work. It is the only degreed American Sign Language
Program in the United States on the campus of a residential school for the
Deaf. The enrollment has double in the past year through advertisement of the
program and a strong commitment by Vincennes University and the ISD.
The Indiana School for the Deaf is proud of its summer programs and continues to
provide a full range of summer programs for both enrolled and public school
students. Some of the summer programs are:
| Camp Willard |
Athletic Camps |
| ISTEP & Remediation |
Extended School Year Programs |
ISD strives to be a World Class School and, through the support of the State of
Indiana, the ISD School Board, parents, families, students, alumni, and other partners
in the ISD Community, that goal is being accomplished.
